The actions carried out within our NGO are certainly intended to help the poorest among us and to contribute to building a fairer world, but they also aim to raise awareness among our young people about humanitarian aid and sustainable development, in particular through education and school exchange.
In order to raise the necessary funds to finance our aid projects, our NGO organizes events within the school (Christmas market, Charity Run, etc.) and solidarity events with information and sales stands.
In order to make the youth aware of sustainable development and solidarity, the Athénée has set up two optional courses: “Linking youth education and life skills with nature” and “Education in development”, both open to students of 2e.
In addition, all high school students have the opportunity to enrol in two courses, one of which focuses on the humanitarian actions and the functioning of NGOs, while the other focuses on issues of sustainable development and cooperation in Cape Verde.
Christmas Market
At the end of the 1st trimester, everyone gets to experience a real tradition. The Christmas market “X-mas @ AL”, is not only appreciated by students, parents, teachers, staff members and alumni who are committed to creating a festive atmosphere, but also by the entire school community.
Nearing the end of the 2nd trimester/ the start of the 3rd trimester, the Charity Run marks the second key moment in the solidary school year at the AL, in which all students and a large majority of teaching, administrative and technical staff participate. As hinted by the name of the event itself, the Charity Run is simple, the runners run and the sponsors sponsor. Every runner is supported by one or more sponsors who pay a certain amount of money for every 5 minutes they are able to run, so that students, parents, grandparents, teachers, management, etc. can all be active in an exemplary event of solidarity.
The first edition of Kolléisch Aid took place on Friday 24th of February 2023 and was a massive success. Many thanks to all visitors, artists, helpers and our partners Stage Music, Slam Tornado Productions and Rick Berg Solutions.
We’ll be back in 2024!

Solidarity with Greece
“Athénée – Humanitarian Action” supports a school in one of the poorest regions of Greece: Pieria. Our main partner is a high school in a rural area where the inhabitants are suffering a lot from the crisis. The Kato Milia Pieria high school and the Athénée de Luxembourg work together to improve the degraded living conditions of the population.
What do you need to be satisfied and happy? What serious problems are there in our world and why? And how can I myself ensure that our world gets better?
About 180 students from the Athénée de Luxembourg met in February 2016 to deal with these questions.
